Green Cauldron Panorama - continues to impress
Eighteen months ago the mighty Panorama painting was relocated after the devastating flood in the Tweed catchment, and is still impressing visitors. Fitting perfectly around the walls of the function room above the Courthouse Hotel in Murwillumbah St. (Main St) it offers a spectacular interpreted 360 degree view from the summit of Wollumbin Mt Warning, as well as being a great location as a meeting room.
Visitors and Tweed residents who had experienced the Panorama in its previous location have commented on how even more realistic it looks in its new home. If you haven't seen it yet, please take the time to go up the stairs, and also visit the Caldera Wildscapes Gallery while you are up there.
Open 10am - 3pm (closed Sundays and Mondays). Entrance is adjacent to the Court House Hotel, 60 Murwillumbah St. (Main St)
Hidden Wonders of the Tweed - new publication
A new book showcasing and promoting the biodiversity values of the Tweed Shire has just been published. This soft cover book is a collaboration between the Natural Resource Managements Unit of Tweed Shire Council, Caldera Wildscapes publishing, Caldera artists and photographers.

Council's NRM Unit selected 52 species recognised as being significant in terms of their localised conservation status and in need of more public awareness regarding threats to their existence.
The book is available at the Caldera Wildscapes Gallery, The Foundry (Murwillumbah) , Sth.Murwillumbah PO, or by post - please inquire by email to:

Beach Stone-curlew - another Hidden Wonder
A critically endangered pair of Beach Stone-curlews recently decided to nest at Cudgera Creek Park, Hastings Point – laying a single egg on the bare ground. They didn't picked a great spot either – right next to the playground/barbecue area, but a chick has since hatched (photo below) and is currently being well looked after by the attentive parents and monitored by Council staff, NP&WS, birdwatchers and enthusiastic locals.
This is the first time Beach Stone-curlews have been recorded breeding in the Tweed and this pair are one of only eight breeding pairs in NSW. Deservedly they are included in the Hidden Wonders book with a low resolution image of the page below.

Amanda Burns - established 'artist-in-residence' at CWG
Joining Andy Reimanis in the CWG studio space is Murwillumbah based artist Amanda Burns. On Tuesdays and Thursdays she will make you feel most welcome with a broad smile and enthusiasm for showcasing the natural environment of the Tweed region....her favourite subject matter. CWG art tutor Andy commented: "When Amanda joined my beginners art class earlier this year I had not anticipated the quality of fine art that she would be producing in a few short months. Furthermore I was thrilled when she recently agreed to share the CWG studio and exhibition space."
Recent artworks worth checking out are 'Couchy Creek' and 'Black-winged Stilt' .... images below, along with Amanda in her fabulous gifts section.
Links to Amanda on Instagram and Facebook are worth checking out.

Helen Cochrane - featured artist
Another Murwillumbah resident who had 'never painted anything before' this year (except sides of houses and fence posts) is Helen Cochrane. Helen was displaced by the impact of floods in Tumbulgum early last year and has been a resident of the Courthouse Hotel while waiting for another suitable home. To help pass the time, she decided to join Andy's art classes, and took to it like a frog in a flood.
In fact one of her first significant paintings was reproduced in the Hidden Wonders book, that of the Fleay's Barred Frog (see below left). Helen is currently embarking on a series of paintings of North American wildlife with a Timber Wolf recently completed. Watch this space for her equine art as well.
Season's Greetings from Caldera Wildscape Artists
Another year has almost passed and the CWG and Panorama are being well looked after by the artists ....but they need your support!
Please call in to the gallery (or enquire by email to: [email protected]) and browse the many paintings and other gift ideas, and cards (a range of Christmas cards are now on display) .... importantly, most are relevant to the Tweed region, and created by local artists.
Inquiries for art classes can be made by ringing Andy direct: 0499 009 888
