The Art of Katherine Castle
Uki
Growing up in a bushland setting close to Sydney, I was surrounded by wildlife and, along with camping trips into wilderness, my love for nature was readily fostered. Furthermore, both my grandparents were in tune with nature and shared with me their passion of painting, photography, visiting art galleries and bird watching.
Subsequently, having studied photography and visual arts, I worked in graphic design and photography. Then once my children were born, I started painting part-time, becoming a full-time artist when they were at school. It has been my very good fortune to have a rewarding collaboration with Maxwell and Williams who produce quality products such as fine china mugs and plates (see link below). I have recently settled in to a rainforest block near the village of Uki after travelling Australia the past three years. So many creative projects lie ahead and its great to have some of my artwork in the Caldera Wildscapes Gallery. |

Report All Sightings - Coxen's Fig-parrots Oil The Coxen’s Fig-parrot is a critically endangered species. With the total population estimated to be about 50 individuals, it is one of Australia’s rarest and least known birds. The last reported sighting in the Tweed region (Border Ranges National Park) was in 1999. This bird has never been photographed. A painting such as this is the only way to put an image of this bird in the public’s eye. Hopefully this artwork will highlight the plight of this species. It optimistically compels the viewer to understand the extent of their fragility, and that of other threatened species throughout Australia. This in turn leads to greater opportunities for the conservation of our invaluable biodiversity. This painting was used on the cover of a comprehensive book, Remnants of Gondwana - A Natural and Social History of the Gondwana Rainforests in Australia. |
